About us

Southend-on-Sea City Council employs around 1,800 staff, who work together to deliver a wide range of services for those who live, work and visit Southend-on-Sea.

The Council provides a range of vital services at the heart of the community, as well as investing in exciting and ambitious projects that keep Southend-on-Sea firmly on the map.

The Council is ambitious for the future of Southend-on-Sea and a refresh of the council’s corporate plan is currently being completed, which will set out the council’s key priorities for now and into the future and how we will tackle the opportunities and challenges we face.

A vibrant city. A proud community

Southend-on-Sea is truly a City like no other. It’s a vibrant, entrepreneurial, and can-do City, where people want to get things done. It is a place of contrasts and diversity, with a burgeoning cultural scene, a place of business enterprise, but also escapism and fun with London just 45 minutes away. A City by the Sea where the vision, impact and potential are limitless.

Southend-on-Sea City Council is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in employment and we welcome applications from all members of the community. We would particularly like to encourage applications from female leaders and individuals from a multi-ethnic background, who are currently under-represented at a senior level within our organisation. At Southend, we strive to create a workplace that reflects our City, where everyone is valued and empowered to be themselves.
